How has the coronavirus affected your training? Was the situation with closed stadiums and gyms very disturbing?
During one training session, we had an episode with the trainer. Someone called the police. They came to the training site to check who does not comply with the restrictions imposed by the Minister of Health – who trains outside without a mask. I explained that this is my job – I am a national team player – and somehow I did not have a ticket.
There were training sessions in Wałcz and Jakuszyce – how is the form? Can you show off your new records?
During the preparations for this season, I trained at training camps in Wałcz, Jakuszyce and Szklarska Poręba, and then I started in Sopot, where I managed to win by eight hundred meters. Then there was a start in Szczecin at a thousand meters, where I managed to improve my personal record – recently it has been two minutes seventeen seconds and thirty hundredths. There is a start at the 2nd Memorial of Irena Szewińska in Bydgoszcz, two thousand meters ahead of me.
Many events have probably been cancelled due to the pandemic?
This year, the coronavirus has slightly frustrated plans. The European Championships, the Olympic Games and most of the meetings have been cancelled. The season was significantly delayed, and during the preparation for the season, training had to be changed significantly, because there was no possibility of strength training. You had to combine a bit with training and hide somewhere in the woods, although it was not always possible.
The Irena Szewińska Memorial in Bydgoszcz is behind us. Michał took third place in the aforementioned 2,000-meter race. What emotions were there right after the race? We encourage you to watch the interview for the Polish Athletics Association.
